Hiking & Airshow

Go see Team America, it rocks; just incredible. Ben a pretty decent couple of days. Went hiking at Torrey Pines with the lgbt hiking club Saturday morning; very relaxing and got to meet some cool people.

Afterwards, headed over to the Miramar MCAS Airshow with Eric and Dor. Never fails to amaze. B-1, B-52 Nuclear Operations, C-130, C-141 Galaxy, Joint Strike Fighter, F-18 Hornet, A-1 Abrahms, along with a bunch of other cool firepower. We made it time to see the Blue Angel's performance, which even after seeing them since I was 6, was stunning as usual. Evening show was laid back but still pretty cool. Lots of roman candle devices/sparklers attached to planes, MiG/F-18 dog fight, a truck powered by 3 jet engines, typical jaw dropping stuff. Great fireworks show afterwards; and just to top it off, they had a bunch of left over ordinance, either some training bombs or battleship artillery charges, which they denotated off the runways. Just to show off, they topped this off with a wall of ordinance half a mile long going off, creating a 100 ft tall wall of fire. Hard to describe the ordinance and fire wall, but imagine a ball of fire as bright as the sun, hot enough to leave your face feeling burned half a mile away, and louder than anything you've heard. Shock & Awe, you get the idea.

Just spent today in the lab working on some projects. Nothing too exciting.

Oct. 12

Got to meet a lot of the new pledges last night, they all pretty much seem like quality guys and I'm looking forward to seeing how they do this quarter. And....ERIC'S BACK!! My friend Eric has been in Sri Lanka for the past month, helping out in a DP orphanage. He finally got back to San Diego yesterday, so I got the full report while we enjoyed the debasement of our pledges, then headed out to Denny's till about 2 this morning. I can't remember the last time I've been so tired, but it was a great night.

Found out another good friend of mine may be moving out to Chicago for a better job. Happy for him because he's been looking for a decent job for like 6 months now and I'm moving in January anyway, so that pretty much cancels out any bitching rights. But it still SUCKS! Starting to think moving up to SF is a better idea than coming back down here in March or April. More and more of my friends are moving on, moving away, and maybe its a good time for me to do the same.

Home

Headed home for the weekend to help my mom with some stuff. Got a chance to go for a hike up at Foothill with Danny and Debra; it was great getting out for awhile and seeing them. Saturday night my mom and I went to a concert with Bill Staines. I've been going to his concerts since I was about 6 months old, and he's pretty much been my favorite acoustic musician my entire life. Haven't seen him for about 5 years, so it was really a great night. Brought back a lot of memories. Back to the grind in San Diego now.

Settling In

Been back in San Diego about 2 weeks now and finally starting to get settled back in. Got to spend a few hours hanging out with Brian when he got back into town. Then got to spend Saturday with Rachel, who just got back from China, and Marcus who I haven't seen forever; its funny how sometimes you don't realize just how much you miss someone till you seem them again.

Rachel and I spent all day Sunday moving into my new place, and everything is looking pretty good. New roommates seem pretty laid back and cool, and they have a pet Corgy. LGBT Bonfire was tonight, it was great getting out and relaxing a bit; first LGBT event I've been to, met some new people, looking forward to events this quarter.
